Michele Benzamin-Miki with Caitriona Reed: The Stories that Make Us

Caitriona Reed and Michele Benzamin-Miki

“We never really know what we’re gonna play when we get on stage.”
Keith Jarrett

“The greatest disasters in our lives can turn into the greatest gifts.”

“Sometimes the stories you’d rather forget call from from you the greatest qualities, strength, vision, and propel you forward towards your destiny.”

“I call this an Ontological Podcast .. meaning, this a conversation about who people ARE, rather than about what they DO. So often we define ourselves in the world according to what we do, or according to what we’ve accomplished, but there’s something more intimate, more immediate, more essential, that has to do with the meaning we make of the world through questioning who we are – who we imagine ourselves to be.”

“There’s no inherent conflict between defining your ‘life purpose’ and living in a way that allows for fluidity, for multiple purposes.”

A Dilettante, going back to the origins of the word, means someone who takes delight. An Amateur is someone who loves, who is in love with life, with art, with people. Let’s all resolve to be Dilettantes and Amateurs. Let’s scale back on all this Professing to be ‘Experts’ and ‘Professionals’. As Shunryu Suzuki famously said, “In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert’s mind there are few.”
