Who’s Driving the Bus?
You may be still working on
your ‘My Ideal Day’ exercise.
Or you have not had time to get to it yet.
Either way, you may have noticed
there’s an inbuilt assumption, which is,
that YOU are the one in charge of your life.
And that even if you don’t feel that yet, you can!
And that when you do, everything starts to change.
Otherwise the exercise would be meaningless,
an exercise in fantasy, right?

The exercise suggests that HOW you think, and WHAT you think,
has an influence on what happens in your life.
Everything’s connected, everything’s alive, everything matters.
Call it the Web of Life, call it a matrix, call it a morphogenic field.
The reality is simply that what we focus on,
or dream, or imagine usually comes to be;
just as, what we fear, or avoid, or dread repeating
often comes into our lives despite our best attempts to block them.
It’s not what you think
Or rather, it’s MORE than your thoughts.
Thoughts don’t happen in a vacuum.
How you FEEL about those thoughts, your EMOTIONAL STATE
is equally important — your fear, or your joy,
your depression, or your exhilaration, your resentment, or your love.
Which is the reason we have suggested (more than once)
that you HAVE FUN doing the writing exercise.
Another idea that supports the whole notion
that you’re not driving the bus of your life,
is the commonly held belief that you can’t help how you feel,
that emotions are something that happen TO you.
It’s important to acknowledge and honor negative emotions,
(as we discussed in the ebook).
It’s also important to understand that your emotional states
are something you learned, got used to, reinforce on a regular basis,
and can change easily, once you know how.
